Trip Facts

Package Highlights

  • First Nepalese Yak Cheese Factory
  • Spectacular views of the snow capped Himalayas-Langtang Lirung
  • Challenging Ganja La Pass (5130m)

This trekking is one of most adventurous trail beyond Kyanjin Gompa  the region of Langtang to Tarkeghyang. Langtang is towards the north of the Kathmandu Valley and just south of the Tibetan boarder. To the west of Langtang is Ganesh Himal with a range of 6,000 to 7,000 meters. The northern parts of the area largely fall within the boundaries of Langtang National Parks.

The main ethnic groups here are Sherpa and tamang  and you may witness the culture of these ethinic groups. Kyanjin Gompa is a last Tibetan Village in the valley, from where a trek starts to Helambu over Ganja La Pass (5,200m). The pass itself is not easy, during autumn and spring the pass opens for trekkers. Ganja La trail continues south, following streams and moraines and climbing steeply towards the pass.

The views to the north from the pass, of Langtang Lirung and the snow peaks in Tibet, including Shisha Pangma at 8013m, are spectacular. If you are lucky to have a clear day you can see the views of many ranges to the south. West of the pass is 5846m Naya Kangri named as Ganja La peak. It is one of the trekking peaks and you can climb with a permit from the Nepal Mountaineering Association. As there are no lodges and no settlements for three days along the way, the trekkers should be well equipped with full logistic support sufficient to meet all requirement that come up.
